Nathan with his son, Charlie (2017)

With deep sorrow, we share the news of the passing of our beloved friend and colleague

Nathan Druivenga,

who left us on June 23, 2025 at the age of 45.

Nathan earned his PhD in Mathematics in 2016 from the University of Iowa. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Department of Mathematics at the University of Kentucky as a Lecturer.

Nathan was a truly gifted teacher. Known for his calm and friendly demeanor, he regularly taught up to 600 students per semester. His students deeply appreciated his warmth and clarity, as one reflected: “He re-sparked my love of Math that had faded over the last few semesters. He is funny, respectful, and helpful beyond belief.” For many years, Nathan smoothly coordinated the uniform instruction of about 1000 students per semester by guiding teams of up to 15 instructors with steady leadership and quiet excellence. His extraordinary contributions to teaching were recognized with the Arts & Sciences Teaching Award in 2019.

We will miss Nathan deeply.
