Welcome to the UK Mathematics Department, the leader in the Commonwealth of Kentucky in both mathematics education and research in the areas of pure and applied mathematics.
The department offers a rigorous undergraduate (B.A. and B.S.) program in a friendly learning environment. It also collaborates with the Department of Economics in the Gatton College of Business to offer a mathematical economics major. The department’s graduate program has more than 60 students. It offers both the Ph.D. and the Masters (M.S. and M.A.) degrees. The courses of study are available in all major areas of pure and applied mathematics.
The department’s outstanding faculty consists of 36 tenured or tenure-track faculty members and five lecturers. Five current faculty members were holders of the University Research Professorships. Peter Perry recently was awarded the 2010-2011 Arts and Sciences Distinguished Professorship, the highest honor given to a faculty by the UK College of Arts and Sciences. Paul Eakin is the first recipient of the Provost’s Public Scholar award, which recognizes the sustained exemplary contribution in community engagement by a UK faculty or staff.
