Abstract:

A whirlwind tour of some of the major concepts from the last decade of mathematics education research using classroom mathematical discussions as a pedagogical setting. Major themes include Number Talks (Parrish, 2010), Professional Noticing (Jacobs, Lamb, and Philipp, 2010), Developmental Progressions (Clements and Sarama, 2004), Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching (Hill and Ball, 2009), and Orchestrating Discussions (Stein, et al., 2008)
