How Do I Apply?
General Application Information
All students should submit an application for admission to graduate study in the Department of Mathematics as described at the Mathematics Graduate Program website. All application materials are submitted online through Apply Yourself. General information about applying to the graduate program in Mathematics may be found here. In order to be considered for the Graduate Scholars in Mathematics Program, you need to include your social security number (SSN) in the online Apply Yourself application (this is optional for all applicants but we need your SSN in order to process the FAFSA form, described below). Please use the secure online application and please do not e-mail or FAX your SSN to us -- protect your personal information!
For full consideration, students should submit all application materials (application, personal statement, letters of recommendation, unofficial transcripts) no later than January 15. In addition, students interested in the Graduate Scholars in Mathematics program will be required to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
To fill out the FAFSA form, go to the Department of Education's website fafsa.ed.gov. This is a secure website run by the Federal Government, and your information will be kept confidential. Please choose "University of Kentucky [Lexington]" as the institution to which your information will be reported. Also, be sure to fill out the FAFSA form for the correct year - for applicants who wish to be considered for Fall 2017, the correct choice is the 2017-2018 form.
Applying for the Graduate Scholars in Mathematics Program
In the online application process, you will first be asked for basic personal and contact information. When you are asked to select a program, you should choose the admission category "Doctoral Degree" and the program "Mathematics." Once you save these selections, the "Application for Admission" menu on the left-hand side should show the item "Graduate Scholars in Mathematics" (please see screenshot below). When you click on this link, you will be asked to confirm your eligibility for the program and your intention to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. If you have any questions about your eligibility for the program, please contact the Director of Graduate Studies.
